17 road deaths reported on fifth day of Ops Sikap


KUALA LUMPUR: Seventeen deaths were reported Saturday on the fifth day of Ops Sikap 24 exercise to reduce road accidents during the Aidilfitri festive period, according to police on Sunday.
The Bukit Aman police website reported that 11 of the dead were motorcyclists, three were motorists and three, pedestrians.
The number of deaths was less than the 24 reported the previous day.
According to the report, the 17 deaths occurred in seven fatal accidents on federal roads, six on municipal roads and one each on state roads and other roads.
It said 9,108 summonses were issued to traffic offenders on Saturday.
